I've been thinking about tattoos for a while and ever since I've embarked on my own personal journey I've decided that I need to push my tattoo plans into action planning. Like...soon.

| Symbol for Gratitude |
I am typically a fan of only black tattoos, but I am thinking this might look good in colour or only in grey so it's not like wham in your face.
This will be my first tattoo that is super visible (besides my foot) all the time. I am getting in my inner left forearm. I do have a teeny bit of a concern about having a tattoo so visible all the time. I like having my tattoo visible, but there are those judgers out there.
I am a huge fan of tattoos with meaning. I will never ink my body without it being very special to me.
The symbolism behind the tree will be growth and a reminder to myself that we are continually growing and changing, we go through different seasons in our lives. Right now seems like the opportune time to get this tattoo. I am in a new season of my life and a tremendous amount of growing is happening within me.
The gratitude within the tattoo is because I obviously love what it means. I want to be reminded everyday that I am blessed and have so much to be thankful for. SO MUCH.
The left arm is because it's the side my heart is on. This one is close to the heart.
The circle around the whole thing is about the circle of life, the never ending of it all and connectedness.

Do you get the itch?
Advice for someone about to jump into the visible tattoo land?

I definitely have the itch but have yet to jump in and actually do it. I love your design and placement. I definitely think you should do it.
I too want a visible tattoo on my wrists, so I have been very hesitant to take the plunge yet. I look forward to seeing the comments!
A daily visible reminder of something that reinforces the hoping mechanism is always advised. If a tattoo within a tattoo is the right expression of your hope, positive energy and radiant thinking-- I say do it and throw a little party afterward.
I love your idea behind this tattoo! I think it'll be a great addition to the ones you have already.
as far as visible tattoos go, the one thing I can say is to be ready to be approached and asked questions about it in public! at least once a day I have someone come up to me and ask me about my sleeve, who my artist is, who "the guy" is on my arm, etc. of course, you can always wear long sleeves when you don't feel like talking, but tattoos that show are always a conversation starter with strangers! :)
Well, I don't want to be the poo-poo'er, so please take this post with a grain of salt. :) I have one tattoo, on my inner left leg, and I don't like it. Hate is too strong a word, because the image is meaningful to me, but who I was at 22 is not at all who I am today. The image is of my initials, printed vertically, and a mirror image of them. I think it's a very cool design, and I've gotten many compliments on it. It's symbolic to me; one half represents me and the other half represents the twin brother I had who died before we were born.
I've had MANY people stop and ask me questions about it when I wear shorts. And this is a pretty small tattoo; no bigger than three inches tall or so. I don't mind people asking me about it, but when people then say, "Oh, I'm thinking about this design for me," I always have to say, "But if I had it to do over again, I would NEVER have gotten it."
At 22, I really liked it. I loved it. At 33... not so much. If I can ever afford it (meaning there are other non-essentials and -wants that money needs to be spent on instead), I plan to get it removed.
Around 23 or 24, I had the tattoo itch and wanted to get more. Apparently, they are addictive. Thank goodness, I talked myself out of getting more, because while I slightly regret having the one, I would HATE having multiple.
My honest advice? Get a temporary tattoo of the design, et cetera, that you want, and wear it every day for about three to six months.
I hope you don't take offense to this; I am by no means saying "don't get the tattoo" or "tattoos are stupid." I just wanted to share my story of having a semi-visible tattoo and my regrets.
let's see the tattoo you already have!
very cool i've always wanted a tatoo but just haven't gotten one due to the fact i don't heal well. but man the itch is strong
Everyday Life
I have 3 tattoos. When I lose 100 pounds (10 more pounds to that mini goal), I am going to get work done on one of them to make it the same size as the other one on my back. I love tattoos and all of mine have a meaning behind each of them.
That being said, I do agree with Jeremy on location. All of mine are in places that can easily be covered for work, and I can still dress weather appropriate. I just feel that you need to keep in mind your future endeavors and careers and whether they are appropriate for the job/clients you would work with.
Other than that, Tat-away!
I have the itch soooo bad :[ Wanted to get one for my 100 lb. weight loss, put it off, now about to hit 150 and trying to be frugal so it's not looking like it'll be any time soon. Lovelovelove tattoos - but that's not really news, haha :)
i think it sounds beautiful. is there a type of tree you connect with? (oak, pine, ect ect) willow is my tree! i too am a fan of the black/gray ink. all of mine are that color scheme. i designed my backpiece now i just need to find the artist/funds to make the vision a reality!.........and yes they are addictive. i have 4 and they all mean something to me. i'm 43 and i don't regret em at all, they are me! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
I get the itch all the dang time, girl. I know exactly what you mean.
I consider my freckles to be all the "ink" I need, but I am still fascinated by tattoos. I really like the idea of a tree and the symbol for gratitude is really pretty.
I think you've thought long and hard about what you want and what it means to you, so I can see why you don't want to wait much longer!
I love the gratitude image and text, too! :)
Loooooove lovelovelove. Do it now. I love the idea of the gratitude symbol - it's so simple but so elegant. It's actually really great having tattoos that show - the judgers can judge all they want, it's yours and only you need and should care about it :)
And duh, I have the itch right now. So bad!!
I LOVE your idea for this tattoo!! I hope you get it, I've been itching to get another one but have no idea what to get.
i love it! i agree with the meaningful tattoos. i don't know why people get silly tats that have no story. i was thinking about getting another one next year, but all the twitter tat talk is kinda making me want one now lol. if i had the money... :)
Love your idea! I have the itch again myself. I have one of a star with a colorful tail and music notes on my ankle from a difficult time in my life. It helped me remember the past, but also move forward. I also got a teal butterfly on my left upper arm in memorial of my grandmother who died of ovarian cancer. The body of the butterfly is actually the teal ribbon for ovarian cancer. I think my next will be a 4 season tree! I have been thinking about it lately...getting that itch! Have been through a lot in the past couple of years and love the symbolism of growth and changing. Congrats and good luck on your goals!
